Listen
to the talk and answer the following questions:
1.
What made
this man sit up and listen about modern day slavery?
When he
saw that in a leaflet, there were millions of slaves in the world and he was
very surprised he did not know that, when he did a press piece with the key
word slavery, 2998 of them were about historical slavery, while 2 of them
were of modern day slavery, but they had no solid information, so he decided
to find out more
2.
What are
‘slave based businesses’? What are the benefits?
Slave
based businesses are businesses that use slaves for it’s own personal gains. Slavery’s
benefits is that you can keep most of the profits to yourself, as the slaves
will receive very little or no benefits. Also, you can increase your
businesses output, as the slaves work 24/7
3.
What are
modern day slaves?
People who
are forced to work with no pay, 24/7 under the threat of violence.
4.
Where is
modern day slavery happening?
It is
happening it almost every country on earth, excluding Iceland and Greenland
5.
How many
people were there in slavery during 2010?
27 million
slaves
6.
What are
some of the reasons behind modern day slavery?
Firstly,
it is because of the population boom, also it is caused by factors such as
corrupt governments, civil wars, natural disasters, poverty etc. Finally, in
some countries there is no law regarding slaves, so slave drivers can treat
them however they like
7.
What is
the average price of a slave today?
90 dollars
8. Where are slaves: More
expensive? Less
expensive? Why do you think
this?
Slaves are more expensive in the European
regions with in the African and Asian region they are much cheaper. This is
because European slaves are most likely to be more physically fit than
African and Asian slaves
9.How can
we combat modern day slavery?
We can
raise funds to liberate them
10. What is liberation?
11. How much does it cost to free
slavery?
It’s estimated cost is around 10.8
billion dollars
Are you willing to
live in a world with slavery? Why/Why not?
No I am not
willing to live in a world with slaves, I believe that everyone has equal
right, no race or religion is better than the other. Human ignorance and
pride has caused the slave trade. If w all can live as equals, this problem
we not have happened

Summarise the key points…
A slave is someone who is forced to
work 24.7 with no or little pay under the threat of violence
Almost every country on the globe,
excluding Greenland and Iceland have more than 500,000 reported slaves.
The reasons slaves exist now are
because of four main reasons, the population boom, the occurrences of events
such as civil wars, natural disasters etc. that makes people feel vulnerable
and weak, corrupt governments and there is no rule of law protecting slaves.
The reason people become slaves is
because either someone offers them a job but turns out there were enslaving
them or it because they are a victim of heditary slavery.
To stop slavery, they cannot just
buy them from the slaveholder as that would be pointless and they may return
to slavery again. To properly free slaves they must perform liberation, which
is not to buy the slaves and to give them services like education, healthcare
etc. to prevent them from becoming slaves again
The global estimated cost of free
all the slaves it approximately 10.8 billion dollars, on a global scale, that
amount is minute.

My
Summary of the article
This
article was talking about the slave trade in the world today. A slave is
someone who is forced to work with little or no pay under the threat of
violence Today there are more slaves in the world compared to past human
history. This is mainly because of three reasons, the population boom, lack
of security during events like civil wars, natural disasters and corrupt
governments. This three factors makes people slaves. This organization wishes
to spot slavery in it’s tracks by performing liberation, which is to free a
slave but not buying him off the slaveholder then they will provide services
like education, healthcare etc. to make sure they do not walk down the path
of slavery again
